Journal 6-9: Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, in which we celebrate a key movement in our nation that brought about right justice and equality in our country.
- Read the following verses, then reflect on the Qs below: Deuteronomy 10:17-19, Deuteronomy 24:19-21, Proverbs 31:8-9, Isaiah 1:17, & James 1:27
- What do these verses teach about our role in caring for those who are most vulnerable to be treated without justice and equality?
- - You can see that God cares for those who are in great need (foreigners, widows, orphans, the poor, etc...), see Psalm 146:7-10 to see His heart on this!
- - In Deuteronomy 24 it explains their thing that is similar to modern 'soup kitchens;' when a farmer went through his field & harvested the grain--they were supposed to leave some back for the widows, foreigners, & orphans to pick up. That way those who had no steady job could still have food!
- - Prov 31:8 & Isaiah 1:17 point out how we're supposed to speak up for and defend the afflicted & needy, such as widows & orphans.
- - Therefore, He calls us to live out our religion by caring for those in need!
- Give two examples of how you can do this: Various answers given by students
- Extra time? Read & reflect on Psalm 146:7-10
