- 1) What was Katie trying to accomplish?
- - She was trying to make a peanut butter & jelly sandwich
- 2) Was Katie ever in any danger? If so, give examples. Did she know she was in danger?
- - She was in danger when she: Stood on a stool to get the peanut butter, went into the knife drawer, thought that cleaner was juice
- 3) Was Katie asked if she needed help? Was help available all along? Did she eventually ask for help? Why?
- - Twice she was asked what she was doing. The 1st time she didn't answer & the 2nd time she said 'nothing.'
- - Help was available all the time, she just needed to admit that she needed it & then ask.
- - She finally asked for help when she began struggling with the jelly
- - - Thankfully this help also prevented her from poisoning herself!
- - - Interestingly, this was an area that she didn't even know she needed help in!
- 4) What do you think Katie represents? What do you think the mom represents? The juice?
- - Katie: She represents people in the theistic worldview
- - - We need help in ways that we do & don't know
- - - We may even know that help is available, we just don't always ask for it
- - Mom: She represents God
- - - She can see the 'big picture,' she has more experience, more strength, & more wisdom
- - - She was also always available to help if there was a need
- - - In Christianity we believe God can always see us, even if we haven't asked for help
- - The Juice: This represents the dangers and mistakes that we face when trying to go through life alone
- Key Ideas:
- - We have limited abilities, but God knows & sees all
- - People often don’t ask for the help that they need, but God looks out for our safety & well-being
- - God lets us know He is there, because he wants a relationship
Re:View: Theism TS: Student Workbook, page 46
- 1) What are the five things that Theism explains? (This is Short Answer 1!)
- - How the physical world exists
- - How there can be order & design in the world
- - Human abilities of intelligence (thought), morals, & creativity exist
- - How all cultures can have had some belief in a god
- - How we have common morals (道德) (& an understanding that there are right and wrong things) around the world & through time
- 2) Why do so many people not want to believe in the Christian God? (- - Fill this out on your Study Packet, page 3)
- - Theological Reason: They don’t understand how He could exist w/the presence of evil & suffering
- - Sociological Reason: They have seen Christians that they do not like & they don’t want to be like them (e.g. extremists)
- - Personal Reason: They don’t like the biblical idea of a God: One who gives them rules to follow and judges them if for their disobedient thoughts, actions, & words
- 3) Why do many people think … restricts life?
- - We would owe Him everything!
- - We become accountable to Him for our actions.
- - We should live how He wants us to.
- 4) What more could God do…?
- - There are lots of answers you could give to this!
- - Often the Christian response is something like this: God has revealed enough of Himself to convince the heart & mind of those who are actually humble enough to search for Him & accept His truth.
